Espacios con Autor: Interceramic Explores the Power of Materiality at Obra Blanca 2026
At Obra Blanca 2026 in Mexico City, Interceramic brings together architecture, interior design and material exploration through a series of environments that examine the relationship between creative vision and the spaces we inhabit.
Mexico City | October 2026
Architecture begins with an idea, but it is through materiality that a vision takes shape. Surfaces, textures, colors and proportions become part of the language through which spaces express identity, create atmosphere and transform everyday experience.
At Obra Blanca 2026, taking place from October 13–15 at Expo Santa Fe in Mexico City, Interceramic presents Espacios con Autor, a collaborative design experience developed with a group of Mexican architecture and design studios.
The experience begins with a manifesto space created by Broissin Arquitectos, conceived as a dark canvas that introduces the central idea behind the installation: spaces are shaped not only by materials, but by the people who imagine, design and ultimately inhabit them.
Rather than presenting materials as isolated products, Espacios con Autor explores how texture, scale, color and complementary solutions can become tools for developing architectural ideas and distinctive spatial experiences.
Raíces — A Contemporary Expression of Identity
Gray Arquitectura y Forma + CASE
Inspired by the relationship between identity, memory and the built environment, Raíces reinterprets familiar references through a contemporary residential setting that connects interior and exterior spaces.
Terracotta tones, mineral textures and large-format ceramic surfaces establish a warm, grounded atmosphere. Rather than reproducing the past, the space explores how materiality can acknowledge cultural memory while giving it a new architectural expression.
The result is an environment where surfaces become part of a broader conversation about belonging, permanence and contemporary ways of inhabiting space.
Asombro — The Unexpected Beauty of Contrast
Maye Estudio
Developed with Maye Estudio, Asombro explores the expressive possibilities of commercial interiors through an unexpected pairing: a gelato shop and a wine bar.
Color, gloss, scale and contrasting textures become instruments of experimentation, demonstrating how familiar materials can acquire a different character when combined in unexpected ways.
The project celebrates individuality and visual expression, suggesting that surprise can emerge not necessarily from unfamiliar materials, but from reconsidering the way they are composed and experienced.
Refugio — Materiality as a Path to Wellbeing
Savvy Studio
Inspired by the architectural legacy of Roman baths, Refugio presents a contemporary interpretation of the spa experience.
Marble, geometric compositions, repetition and carefully orchestrated depths create an atmosphere of contemplation where materiality becomes closely connected with physical and emotional wellbeing.
The environment explores an increasingly relevant dimension of interior architecture: the ability of space to encourage pause, restoration and a different relationship with time.
Atelier — A Space for Material Exploration
Material Spec
Complementing the conceptual environments, Atelier Interceramic introduces a more interactive approach to material exploration and specification.
Developed with Material Spec, the space brings together ceramic and non-ceramic surfaces, textures and complementary design solutions. Its different areas include SPC flooring, material compositions inspired by Raíces, Asombro and Refugio, creative tables for developing new combinations, as well as kitchen and bathroom solutions.
Visitors are invited to explore materials directly, develop their own compositions and identify combinations relevant to their projects.
This approach shifts material selection from a purely functional process toward a more experimental one, highlighting the role of discovery and collaboration in translating an initial design idea into an architectural solution.
Beyond Surfaces: Designing Experiences
Through Espacios con Autor, Interceramic places material exploration at the intersection of creativity, technical knowledge and human experience.
The environments demonstrate that surfaces do more than define the appearance of a space. They influence atmosphere, perception and the way architecture is experienced.
At a moment when architects and interior designers are increasingly exploring more personal, sensory and context-driven approaches to space, Espacios con Autorproposes materiality not as the final layer of a project, but as part of the creative process itself.
Interceramic’s participation at Obra Blanca also reflects a broader approach to its relationship with architects, interior designers and other professionals: moving beyond individual products toward tools, materials and experiences that support the development of projects from initial inspiration through specification.
