Tou by Naoto Fukasawa Kettal

Tou represents our humble homage to the ancient craft of rattan and reed wickerwork, which has played a pivotal role in the cultural development of both Eastern and Western societies. Historically, these materials have been employed in crafting a myriad of household items and furniture pieces. Despite their simplicity, the natural materials boast a complex internal structure, comprised of hundreds of cavities, rendering them simultaneously robust and lightweight.

Our manufacturing process seamlessly melds traditional manual techniques with modern industrial processes. Rather than opting for the conventional weaving method, we embrace striped vertical lines, which not only enhance the lightweight nature of the material but also imbue it with a heightened level of expressiveness. The resulting design boasts a smooth and gentle outline, harmonizing effortlessly with the inherent shapes provided by the raw material.
